Colon Cancer


Description

The colon is part of the digestive system where waste food store. While the rectum is the end of the large intestine near the anus. Both are long tubular called the colon. Tumors of the colon and rectum is a growth arising from the inner wall of the colon. Benign tumors of the colon called polyps. Whereas malignant tumor of the colon is called cancer.

Benign polyps do not invade nearby tissue or spread to other parts of the body. Benign polyps can be easily removed during colonoscopy and are not life threatening. If benign polyps are not removed from the colon, these polyps can become malignant (cancerous) over time. Most colon cancers are believed to develop from polyps. Colon and rectum (also referred to as colorectal cancer) can invade and destroy the tissue around the intestine and other organs. Cancer cells can also break away and spread to other parts of the body (such as liver and lungs) to form new tumors.

Cause

Consume too much fat is believed affect the occurrence of colon cancer. Research has shown in countries with populations of high levels of fat consumption is more common colon cancer than people in countries with low levels of fat intake. Heaps of various products that contain fat in the body forming chemicals (carcinogens).

Symptom

Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include:
– Tired
– Shortness of breath
– Dizziness
– Pain in lower abdomen
– Diarrhea
– Blood in feces
– Anemia
– The form of manure (feces) long and small like a pencil.

Treatment

Surgery is the most common treatment for colon cancer. During surgery, the tumor, a small portion of surrounding healthy bowel, and lymph nodes adjacent to crop. The surgeon then connects the healthy bowel. In patients with rectal cancer, the rectum will permanently cut off.

Prevention:
Colon cancer can be prevented by changing habits of excessive fat consumption to amakanan that contain high fiber.The main sources of fat such as meat, eggs, dairy products, salad dressings, and oils used in cooking should be reduced. As penyeimbangnya, fruits, vegetables, and whole grain breads and cereals that contain fiber should be consumed. Keep in mind that high fiber in the diet causes the formation of large dirt that can get rid of carcinogens.
